Ha-Ha Halls

The upside to catching a cough this weekend is having had the pleasure of experiencing the Halls “A pep talk in every drop™” lozenge wrappers. I had no idea that cough-drop messaging had, well, dropped.

I especially enjoyed this one which was seemingly targeted to “working girls” (or guys), with its motivational messages about strutting and wows.

But I have to say my favorite pep talk was this one.

I don’t know if it helped my cough at all, but it sure made me laugh.

Happiness Is...

Care package. I mean, it’s right in the name: someone cares. But that’s not even the half of it. It’s a care package from Mom. And there’s nothing, nothing, not ever anything—in the WORLD—like it, whether it’s cookies she made by hand like this, cookies that no one in most of the country has even heard of, or the lavender bloom of a frijolío with its powerful grape Cool-Aid perfume filling my room two-thousand miles away from where it was snipped, or nothing at all, just the air she breathed and packaged up for me to share.

Thank you, Mom. I love you more than I can ever say.

The Wrath of Nemo (or, the worst Disney sequel ever)

This year for my birthday, I wished for a snow day so I’d have a good excuse to take a last-minute long weekend. Hours and hours and HOURS of shoveling later, I can say with 100% certainty that I won’t be doing that again. We got hammered with 18″-19″ of snow overall, with some densely packed drifts well over 30″.

All the planned birthday festivities, like dinner with friends, and a chocolate and beer tasting [wipes away a little tear] had to be canceled. But it could’ve been a lot worse — we never lost power. Plus, I had a hot bath drawn for me to soak my aching muscles, complete with fancy bath salts and my new favorite thing: an Almond Joy martini (1 part Marie Brizard Chocolat Royal and 1 part Sobieski toasted coconut vodka). Life is good.
